HOW DOES ONE SELECT A TRANSFORMER PHASOR GROUP IE, WHETHER
A STAR-DELTA TR OR A STAR-STAR OR A DELTA-DELTA, ETC.
TRANSFORMER IS MORE SUITABLE FOR A PARTICULAR KIND OF LOAD
OR WORKING CONDITION???
Answer Posted / gurucharan singh
Delta star is required only when distrbution system is
required or for higher voltage transmission line to cut
down high power tranformer insulation cost. Delta at
primary is preferred as it does not passes earth fault to
system at delta side. star with neutral is required for
detection earth fault curren, unbalanced loads, single
phase loads...star star or delta delta are considered
normally at same voltage ratio to lower down system fault
current at secondary side.
