Yes.By varying the excitation i.e. the terminal voltage.If
the voltage of the generator is more than the grid
voltage ,the pf will be lagging and the vice versa.But the
pf has to be maintained at 0.9 to 0.98 lag ,for system
stability.A poor pf results in higher armature current
which is also not desirable
