why 20logA is used as voltage gain and 10logA is used as

For higher values of gain we seek the help of log scale..in terms of bels. But more oftenly decibel is considered to be a better unit than bel. So if simple gain is (a/b) then gain (in bels) is log(a/b) and in decibel it become 10log(a/b)as deci means 10.
Now any quantity X for which power is directly proportional to X its gain is shown as 10log(a/b).e.g. Power itself and Luminous Intensity...
On the other hand any quantity Y for which Power is proportional to square of Y,will have its gain(in decibels) like 10log(a^2/b^2)...This square term will come ahead and gain become...20log(a/b)..
