Electricty is generated at around 16kV, then step up to
220kV for transmission then steped down to power
transformers then DTs and then through the LT n/w it reaches
the consumer end.
At the consumer end 230V supply is required. So, why is
electricity not generated directly at 230V and transmitted?

what happened in a transmission line is that there occurs
losses while transmitting power on the transmission lines
due to the conductors.
as The higher the current then the greater the power losses
power loss = I^2R (ohmic loss)
so we prefer to step up the voltage becoz the higher the
voltage , lower is the current.
so it is always necessary to transmit the power after
stepping it up so as to reduce losses..
