Capacitors are used to recover the reactive component of
power (part of power utilized for manetization in
windings).It does not matter the source generating the
voltage is Diesel Generator,steam-driven Alternator or any
other source generating A.C supply.Capacitors are always
beneficial on AC supply if the power-factor is maintained
below Unity (using a power-factor regulating relay), on
lagging side.If power-factor is not maintained through
regulating relays then it has the tendency to go on leading
side which means ,over magnetization of windings.
