in thermal power plants by opening the turbine governor
valve increase the generator load. how
Answer Posted / manuks
I assume that the machine we talk about is synchronized
with some power grid. In this case the machine will run at
the frequency of this grid. Any fluctuation on the part of
this machine will bring the synchronizing torque into play
and pull the machine back to synchronous speed. Now suppose
we are opening the governor valve to increase the machine
speed. The synchronous torque will immediately put more load
on the generator, to prevent it from speeding away. This
will result in an increase in its load. Any effort to
decrease the speed will result in the synch. torque removing
some load from the machine and again its speed wil remain
the same.
