What are various power system instabilities and what are
their effects on power system operation?
Answer Posted / iamdon
There are mainly three types of power system instabilities
1)Rotor angle instability:It arises due to real power(P)
imbalance. If the situation continues for a long time there
will be mechanical problem with rotor.
2)voltage instability:It arises due to reactive power(Q)
imbalance. If the situation persists for a long time there
will be voltage collapse or Black-out situation within the
system.
3)Frequency imbalance:It is due to power generation
imbalance. If not corrected within the time limit, there will
be islanding of some part of system.
