What happens if a three phase induction motor is suddenly
single-phased while running? Which type of winding
connection will be affected?

If a three phase induction motor is suddenly single-phased
while running, no distinct change will happen if it is
running under noload condition. You will just hear a
hunting sound and the the motor will continue to run with a
slightly lowered speed and increased current, but if the
motor is running under loaded condition it will stop down
and take excessive current due to single phasing and the
protection circuit will trip, if protection ckt is not
installed the motor will be ultimately burnt due to
excessive locked rotor current.
And note: This experiment is tested.

For a 6.6kV Motor it is recommended to do megger test with 500 V d.c and not more than 5kV d.c but the Hi voltage withstand test should be performed by 12kV AC. Why the dc voltage test should be limited but AC voltage withstand test could be with such a high voltage?

Is a contactor (or master relay) required between incoming lines and a VFD? The question goes to safety. If a contactor were used before the VFD and an e-stop engaged then the motor will coast to a stop (i.e. VFD loses power) instead of stopping much faster if the VFD braking fucntion were used. It would make more sense to keep power on the VFD.
