why companies put ltd and pvt ltd,what is the difference?

according to name-clause of the memorandom of association a
private company must use the word pvt,ltd at the end of
company name
ex:- siva pvt,ltd
similarly in public company the word ltd; is used
ex:-reliance ltd;
