what is the difference between rake and rack.
Answer Posted / rakesh
rake is the term used in case of a single point cutting tool
for operation like turning in lathe.
It is the angle between the normal to the machining surface
and the rake face of the tool.
-Higher the angle will decrease the cutting force and
increase the surface finish of the workpiece,
-This angle can be from 0-90 degree ,but generally its
recommended to 15-30 degree rake anle(back rake angle).
-Because increasing the rake angle, removes the material from
the tool that will support the cutting edge of the tool and
help in heat distribution from the tool to the atmoshpere.
