What do you mean by MIB and where does it stay?

Answer Posted / sandeep patra

MIB is Management Information Base. It is kind of database
which is used to group similar objects.
One can specify MIB using ASN1 syntax.

As per my understanding of SNMP protocol and architecture,
MIB resides in SNMP Agent. SNMP Manager requests/queries
from agent, which is served using MIBS stored in SNMP AGENTs.

When SNMP manager gets information from the agent, it
usually stores these informations in its own databases (NOT
MIB). So that these informations can be used by various
applications running on SNMP Manager, which uses these
information to represent in user readable format or present
it in a graphical way.
