Creating Landscape is really important to keep Production
Box up thus running business smoothly since According to
Client requirement. Customizing is done and changes are
tested then are served to Customer. As per SAP
recommendation, One need to have at least one Development
server, One test and then production.and thereafter As per
requirement of customer many other SAP servers can be absorb
to form a Complete Landscape.

Yes we can do development on Production server but Your
Business will be at stake since SAP will not support it and
moreover even a single fault will ruin entire Business
since you dont have any scope left to test your program
before taking them Live.
