Difference between layer 2 and layer 3 devices ?

layer 2 devices is works on the physical address which mac
address and it is individual for every nic.physical address
is mac address which is 48 bit address.and it works faster
than layer 3 devices.
layer 3 devices is works on the logical address which is IP
address of NIC and it is 32 address.
