How to calculate the average power factor in 3 phase
unbalanced system
Answer Posted / engr.abdurrahim
Dear Deepak,
Power factor is the cosine factor of the voltage & current
phase difference. Its a short defination. But if you go
deeply, Power factor=cos@,its depend only on load, instead
of phasewise.if you connect same load in every phase it
will show same power factor value in each phase.Because
power factor is depended upon load resistance=R & its
impedance=Z,
cos@ = R/Z,
So if you are going to calcualte the power factor of all
phase, you have to calculate all resistance & impedance of
the load. Then you can calulate the avg. power factor.
R=R1+R2+R3
Z+Z1+Z2+Z3
(Where Z=R+jXL=Impedance)
cos@=R/Z
Hope my answer will satisfy you.

Please help me regarding my one concern. - During earth pit testing we noticed that the Clean earth pit and dirty earth pit showing continuity (Resistance value - 5ohm) . I want to know that if both earth pit have separate location and there is not internal looping between PIT then why such continuity is showing on it . Because of this issue the field side all earthing point showing short. In PLC panel we are providing two types of earthing cable which is coming from separate earth pit (Clean and Dirty earth pit) because of earth PIT showing short our PLC is not complying spec . please help regarding this issues.

We are preparing another project which involves Waste heat recovery from a 1 MW GE Engine. The Engine in particular gives out flue gas at 487Deg C with a flow rate of 5650 kg/hour and this can be cooled to 180 Deg C. This gives a thermal output of ~ 594 KW that is available for input to VAM via heat exchanger / boiler. Additionally 581 KW will be available from engine jacket water (temperature profile 80/ 80 Deg C and a flow rate of 50m3/hr) Our estimation is that 300 TR of cooling is possible with a suitable VAM machine(s). Please advise what is the most suitable arrangement with maximum TR and min Capital expenditure. plz reply me as early as possible
