Can any body tell me about Hi-pot test, and why it is
necessary and its procedure of testing
Answer Posted / rakesh thakur
HI-pot test is use to test the insulation breakage of
various electrical auxilaries like cables,switchgears
etc.A HI-POT is a autotransformer which produces high
voltage of the desired level of testing, like for 33kv
system we will increase the output voltage of HI-POT slowly-
2 from o to 33 kv and apply it across the testing specimen.
If insulation of the specimen is all right than there will
be zero lekage current(meter affixed on HI-POT) and if
there is any insulation breakage in the system than there
will be certain value of leakage current on certain value
of value of voltage and circuit will got tripped.
