beta-lactam to react the a serine residue of
transpeptidases to give an inactive acylated enzyme
transpeptidases are located in periplasmic space.
They are capable of hydrolysing penicillins, broad-spectrum
cephalosporins and monobactams. Often associated with
resistance to aminoglycosides and fluoroquinolones .
