As far as i know the retrieval is fast.
as per the standard definitions the insertion will be slow.
To achieve more performance when you are loading large data
please drop indexes on the table and load the data.Once your
load has completed recreate indexes.
It will help your performance.

Both connected ans unconnected look-up transformations are
passive.because the input rows supplied to the look-up are
equal to output rows.so we call look-up transformation is
passive.
