nothing here buddy, nobody serious about their promotion they can only frustrate to someone but do not willing to change in their promotion policy. no body dare to aske any question to general secretory & government concerned to promotion matter this is totally unfair. they only make fear among new candidates .............shame yourself before writing such comment

yes the promotion aspect is not good at all... But there is
an advantage , my friends father is a rtd suptt he remaind
in his hometown for his entire 32 years service ....

very bleak. not only excise , all govt depts are for the
reserved(privileged) category only in future. if u r in
general category as some one answered, u may never get a
promotion or may get only one promotion. CBEC knows nothing
about welfare and does not care about gp C and B employees.
I am cursing myself every day for joining. if u r
smart,young and non SC/ST please do not join. try for job in
some private concern,

Hi....The positive side is no political interference, appreciation for knowledge of tax rules & skills, versatility of work, postings in mostly urban places only, if not metropolitan city then a peaceful & relaxed sort of life.
The darker side is promotion aspects (usually it is 14-16 years for 1st promotion, however due to cadre review in some zones it came down to 8 years), Inferior treatments by most of the higher ups,
If selected its advisable to get extension in joining time and complete preparation for civil services examination or state services examination if interested.

Now the promotional channel has been rectified by changing in RR. One Inspector(Excise & Custom) get promotion within 5-6 years of service, as confirmed from the department concerned.

I am an inspector of CBEC...this is a very comfortable post...only promotion slow...great respect outside the dept...field work is enjoyable...ample time for family...if getting home state great...pl dont run away after money...dont b corrupted or bribed...

In this department if anybody join as inspector he will retired as superintendent but same post if join in cbdt then he can reach as additional commissioner.so in my view in central govt or state govt only this dept viz cbec has less promotion sometimes if u join central excise inspector u will retire same post. So this dept has no career. It would be better to join loc or ta in income tax dept.

Do not join this department. I have got promoted to Superintendent after 25 years and 8 days although my records were unblemished. There are many like me. My friends who got selected in CBDT with me in 1989 are all Additional Commissioners and will retire ad Commissioner.
