In simple words it means centrallised control of data. If
AD is installed, the admin can control any system
(server/client) from any system in the forest.

Active Directory is the directory service used by Windows
2000. It is a core new feature of the Windows 2000 operating

A directory service consists of two parts—a centralized,

access the database. In Windows 2000, the database is called
the Active Directory data store, or sometimes just the
directory. The Active Directory data store contains

Directory are called domain controllers.
