Its due to amino acids containing an aromatic ring in their
structure...Eg. Tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine

it is due to tryptophan and tyrosine.phenylalanine absorbs
at 260nm. but the former two has absorbance maxima at
280nm. absorbance is due to resonance phenomena of the
rings present in these amino acids.

absorb at 280nm along with the aforementioned tryptophan
and tyrosine.
