A Bank Probationary Officer (PO) in the bank is the
starting level appointment for bank officers and the
promotional prospects are quite healthy with the work as it
defining the limit for the candidate's success. Job profile
of PO (Probationary Officer) is General Banking,
administration work and any other work assigned by the Bank
from time to time.
A Bank PO can be asked to do anything till the completion
of its probation period. After the confirmation he/she can
give tasks having routine work like posting, scrolling or
advances or anything that is related to banking. He/she
generally assigned to various responsibilities, as directed
by the Sr. Manager. They are trained for accounting,
marketing, finance, investment as well as billing.
The Bank PO also work on increasing other aspects of the
bank's business such as the loan department, the the
mortgage and finance divisions of the bank. Handling
customer complaints and issues is also the responsibility
of the Bank PO. Often this means dealing with complaints
over issues such as charges, discrepancies in accounts, or
even in complaints with service at the bank. Good
communication skills and an ability to resolve conflicts
calmly is essential for a Bank PO
Bank PO joins the bank as Asst manager after the end of
probation period . Initially he/she may be posted in a
branch where he/she will handle daily customer transaction
like passing a cheque, cash management, Draft issuance etc.
After certain experience and depending upon skill/aptitude,
the person would be given an opportunity to work in other
areas like planning, marketing, budgeting, processing of
loan , investment management etc.

as per me a bank p.o. needs to be a good learner and a good
teacher at the same time,a big room for improvement is a
prerequisite for the designation.apart from this
determination ,dedication and discipline makes a worthy p.o.
since,the job requires hugea amount of interactive sessions
its inevitable for him to be a good speaker and even a
better listener.rest confidence brings glory......

Probationary Officer have the following qualities
1.He/She should be a Sincere,If he/she is sincere then he/she do their work with sincerity and there will be two positive result by this,work should be done within the time and indirectly it will be beneficial for organization growth.
2.He/Should be a good learner,if he/she is a good learner then he/she will be able to know what is new in banking technology or new banking product available in market.
3.He/she should be adaptable in nature that means if he/she will be posted in PAN-India so he/she should be able to adapt a new environment and new staff easily.
4.He/she should be a good team leader and team member also that means he/she should always be ready to motivate our sub-ordinate and co-workers for achieving target and also be a good team member who always ready to work in team.
5.He/She should be a good in communication so better influence our customer to sell its product to increase our organisation growth.
6.He/She should be a good decision maker in critical situation.
7.He/She should be cooperative,calm and industrious in nature.

people skills as constantly he/she is dealing with people
in or outside the organisation.
The nature of service being provided by the bank involves
every kind of clients.
Hence I believe, respect for people in and around is the
most crucial aspect a Po must possess.
Business awareness is the second most important
characteristic that would be required for any PO.

First qualities are of a P.O interactive with staff.P.O. is
to do brninging them all daily activities in bank. He needs
to understand the bank(P.O) rules and regulations and need
to learn more communication siklls and take the diseation
critical situations.

How will you apply your knowledge of economics in Bank PO job? I am an Economics PG and recently qualify Bank Probationary officer exam. Next stage of the exam is an interview. If the panel asks me "How will you apply your knowledge of economics in this job" What should be my answer? i a aware at banks are all about finance and economics, but that knowledge will be used at 'Senior management level'.
