Pataliputra was founded by the Udayin who was the successor of Ajatshatru by making fort at the confluence of Son and Ganga river. He has shifted the capital of Magadha empire from Rajgriha to Pataliputra. It was also the capital of Shishunaga synasty, Nanda dynasty and Maurya dynasty.
