Answer / asdf
all the answers are wrong it is 12
len * breadth * height must be 128
len = breadth since it is a square plot..
hence height = 2
len = 8 + 2 + 2 = 12 cm

Answer / leech
let, side of original plate be =x
also, side of the square at the corners= a
so, when the square at the corner is cut off, the length of the box is=x-2a
similarly, the breadth of the box is=x-2a
the height of the box would be invariably=a
so, the dimension of the open box=(x-2a)*(x-2a)*a=a*(x-2a)^2
so, we need to factorize 128 so that we get a square term & an integer.
case 1. 128=2*2*2*2*2*2*2=(2*2*2*2*2)*2*2=32*2*2
so, a=32, x-2a=2, x=2*32+2=66
case 2. 128=2*2*2*2*2*2*2=(2*2*2)*(2*2)*(2*2)=8*4*4
so, a=8, x-2a=4, x=2*8+4=20
case 3. 128=2*2*2*2*2*2*2=2*(2*2*2)*(2*2*2)=2*8*8
so, a=2, x-2a=8, x=2*2+8=12
so, the possible values of the side of the original square plate are 66, 20 & 12
none of these match the answer options provided in a. , b. or c.
so, the correct choice is d. or none

THe answer cannot be determined as it can have multiple
answers and the question is silent about two things.
First:What is the shape of the box so formed - cube/Cuboid?
Second: What is the oil and what is its density (there are
several types of oils with different densities - if its
water the density is unity that is 1ml per 1CC)
So even by assuming the density to be unity and the
resultant box so formed is a cuboid we have more than one
answer. It cuold be 18 Cms (8*8*2) or 16Cms (4*4*8)
if it is a cube them the length of the side will be
slighlty above 15 Cms.
Guess this is a trick question to test the fundamentals of
the cadidates. one should be careful while answering such
questions as they involve certain assumptions.

A aquare plot can be divided into 9 equal squares.out of 9
four squares are at the corner .the corner squares are
removed and using other 6 small squares the box is built
now a*a*a = 125
a=5
Actual length of big square = 3a = 3*5 = 15
in the question a*a*a =128
Actual length of big square = 3a = 3*5.04 = 15.12

Answer / nidhi
Size of plate ie. side = 8
Reason:--
Four equal suares are cut from a square...it will form
another square.
Volume=128
i.e. length * breadth * height=128
or side*side *height = 128
If i consider that all values are integer only, then
putting heighjt=2, will only give me the integer values.
now side =8
And the length of one side of original plate = 10.
