if it would have high resistance then current would not flow and if the amount of current even increases then too the fuse will not melt..... therefore it should have low resistance.... i feel

Fuse wire has the work to melt and break the circuit if high amt current passes through it.Heat=i×i×R×t .So its resistance should be higher so that large heat is produced at that limit of current which is capable of melting the wire.It has high melting point because if it has low melting point the it will melt also if low amt current is passed which will make circuit break unneccessarily

I do not understand why people are posting wrong answers!!! Try to understand the basics first. Would a fuse carry the rated current if it has high resistance!! No. The sole purpose of the fuse is to melt and disconnect as soon as there is a surge of current ot short circuit and that is why it has a low melting point than the rest of the circuit coz it has to melt first. It carties the rated current why would it have high resistance???? The answer is low res and low bp. Many of the books have wrong answers even some good publishers.

resistance is relative...H=I*I*Rt.....so there is no need of high R for heating and melting....when R decreases I increases and I "squares" to form more heat....
