explain checkpoints and why in 9.4 they were better than in previous versions of the engine?

explain checkpoints and why in 9.4 they were better than in previous versions of the engine?..

Answer / Manindra Nath Singh

Checkpoints are a mechanism used to write dirty pages from the system cache to disk, ensuring data consistency during recovery or crashes. In Informix 9.4, checkpoints were improved due to the implementation of 'Adaptive Checkpointing'. Unlike previous versions where checkpoints occurred at fixed intervals regardless of database activity, Adaptive Checkpointing allowed the engine to dynamically adjust checkpoint frequency based on the database workload. This resulted in reduced response times during heavy loads and increased recovery time efficiency.
