What molecules are present in a typical soap such as sodium
stearate and explain how it functions to remove grease from
clothes.
Answer / kurt heller
it contains sodiomion and a long fatty acid chain with a
negative charge
the effect as a soup comes from the fatty acid, it binds to
the dirt on our clothes
dirt and fatty acids are both apolar - so they bind well,
because the fatty acids are water soluble, the dirt will be
removed from our clothes!
dirt are apolar in nature, so it is insoluble in water
an important effect of the soup, is that it lowers the
surface tension of water
