A) VLAN increase the number of broadcast domain.
Just for example - Take a switch of 12 ports.
As we everybody know that in a switch,
Broadcast Domain - 1
Collision Domain - No of ports i.e. here it is 12.
So in this condition, each port can communicate with each
other. in spite of having 1 broadcast domain & 12 collision
domain.
Make two VLAN (Such as VLAN - 5 (Sachin), VLAN 6 (Dravid)on
that switch & assign SIX (1,2,3,4,5 & 6) ports of the switch
to VLAN 5 & assign rest of SIX (7, 8,9,10,11 & 12) on VLAN 6.
Now port no 1 can't communicate with port 9 without any
router & inter VLAN routing. That means, Creating VLAN is
nothing but logical division of switch. Here we created 2
VLANs, So now there is two broadcast domain.
a) VLAN increase the number of broadcast domain.
b) VLAN reduce the size of broadcast domain.

virtual lan is nothing but dividing a big switch into many switch. suppose if we have 12 port switch . if we divide this switch into two switch . suppose vlan 1 and vlan 2 . suppose in each vlan we have 4 and 6 port is there respectively.after dividing the vlan thus the computer connected with vlan1 can't communicate with vlan2 computer . thus we get two switch from one switch . in a sw. we can create many vlan upto 1005 vlan.
