Consider a pipe line with a regulating vave, carrying water
from a reservoir to some sump...
Initially the valve is imagined to be fully
opened and water will be freely flowing. Suppose we shut the
valve suddenly, The Water coming the upstream will be
subjected to impact the Valve shutter , causing severe boost
in water pressure and produces vibrations in
pipeline...,known as water hammer...
Steam Hammer may be attributed to the similar
effect caused by working steam
