what is the difference between earth and neutral?
Answer Posted / laiju j nair
it s a frequently asking interview question..
earth is defined as the protective circuit .
and neutral s defined as the current returning circuit.
in home,
ground wires are connected to all electrical equipments
metal body. if there s any fault in equipment , it may
cause current on its body. earth wire connected to metal
body carries this fault current to earth and decreasing the
effect of shock. for this , the earthing should be perfect.
AC is sine wave, ie voltages become zero in each cycles.
this zero voltage is referred as neutral. in 3 phase
transmission system, the voltage disbalance between lines
may leads to flow some current through neutral. due to this
reason neutral s earthed in all substations.. thank u..

In a 3 phase 4-wire system. For a 3.5 core cable if all loads are single phase and balanced, what will be neutral current? will it be sum of all phase currents? Or it will be zero? And if loads are unbalanced what will be neutral current?

Is there any problem about which the drive (inverter) doesn't show/display the alarm and/or fault but instead of this , it doesn't work ? I want to know that could there be any kind of problem in the drive when the drive doesn't display the alarm and/or fault ?

Please clarify, 1. Is it required to lay two runs of GI wire along with Armoured LT cable if it is laid between one big mains (63Amps TPN SDF) to small main (32A TPN SDF) with proper glanding termination? 2. If the armoured cable with proper glanding is laid from DB to CNC machine, is it required to run two runs of body earthing to the Machine from DB? 3.If the armoured cable with proper glanding is laid from Substation to Hangar, distance is approx. 100 mtrs, is it required to do earthing at shop area though the primary termination at substation is earthed through gland.

As we use capacitor bank in 3ph ckt to improve PF, can we use capacitor in single ph domestric use, in house we have Fan,Mixer, electric cooker, iron, tube choke they also lag the system, because it is inductive load. if it is possible to improve PF of single ph system-- if yes- type of capacitor to be used, connection diagram, working in detail. if no-- list it.
