What is Fourier Transform Spectrosopy?

Answer Posted / chemistk

FTIR is the process by which a sample is placed into a KBr
pellet or mineral oil mull and subjected to infrared
radation (waves of light from the IR part of the light
spectrum). The IR light is then partially
absorbed/transmitted by the bonding of the molecules within
the sample by their streching & bending. This absorption
is then represented graphically with a spectrum from 450 -
4000nm. This is a fingerprint of the substance (best
results are obtained with pure samples).
