what is difference between report defect and track defect

As far as my knowledge
Report Defect means once you identify a defect you raise
(report) the Defect and the status is NEW
Track Defect something you will track the defect status
once it changes to Open, awaiting functionality, fixed,
Ready for retestetc. you obsereve the change in status of
that defect unitl it status changes to Close.
