Coelom is a body cavity found in many multicellular animals. It develops from the mesoderm germ layer during embryonic development and is separated from the outer layers by the body wall or somatocoel and from the inner layers by the visceral coat. Coelom provides space for internal organs, facilitates movement, aids in excretion, and allows for expansion of the body during growth.
