What is the difference between instance recovery and crash recovery?

Instance recovery occurs when a database instance is started after it has been shut down, either normally or abnormally. Crash recovery, on the other hand, occurs automatically when an instance is restarted after a system failure. During crash recovery, the database is rolled forward to the last committed transaction before the failure.
