HDFS architecture consists of NameNode and DataNodes. The NameNode is the central management node that manages the file system namespace, regulates access to files, and maintains the FileSystem image (FSImage) and EditLog (Edits). DataNodes store and serve the data blocks. In addition, there can be Secondary NameNodes for backup purposes.
