Overtime pay and compensatory time (comp time) are separate concepts. Overtime refers to paying employees at a rate of at least one and a half times their regular rate for hours worked beyond 40 per week, while comp time is an alternative to overtime pay that allows employers to grant employees additional time off in lieu of wages for overtime work.
