HDFS Federation is a scalability feature in Hadoop that allows multiple NameNodes to manage different portions of the HDFS namespace, thereby increasing the overall capacity and throughput of the system. Each NameNode is responsible for a specific portion of the data called a federated namespace. Clients interact with a single NameNode known as the root NameNode, which communicates with the other NameNodes to handle client requests.
