Why do I have to use refresh and invalidate metadata, what do they do?

Refresh and invalidate metadata are used in Impala to update the cache of table metadata. Refresh updates the metadata for all tables, while invalidate metadata only affects specific tables. These commands are necessary when changes are made to the underlying HDFS or HBase data.
