why the generating voltage in India is 11kV or why is it be
transmitted as multiples of 11
Answer Posted / nagesh.patwari
See all, It is cheaper to generate at a relative lower voltage and then step it up for transmission. Hence, most power generating plants are designed to operate at 11KV. Also generating voltages are designed in multiples of 1.11 or less considering the 10% or less voltage drop in the transmission lines & distribution lines. In olden days when the electricity becomes popular, the people had a misconception that in the transmission line there would be a voltage loss of around 10%.
