Examine the working of the Refrigerator?

Answer Posted / amita sharma

It is a device for producing low temperature (0oc or below) for storage of perishable food materials, thermo-labile medicines and production of ice.

Liquefied vapour of ammonia, sulpher dioxide or ‘freon’ known as refrigerant is made to evaporate under reduced pressure producing the required low temperature.

In a modern refrigerator, the refrigerant liquid sulphur dioxide or freon is led onto the evaporator coolism which it evaporates there by cooling the storage space. After evaporation the low pressure vapour passes down through the suction-pipe to operate a motor switch at the bottom. The switch starts the electric motor which works the compressor. The switch starts the electric motor which works the compressor. The high pressure vapour from the compressor goes to the condenser cooled by a current of air from a fan. On cooling, the vapour condenses onto liquid and collects in a tank. From this tank, the liquid rises up through a pipe and enters the evaporator soils. A float valve regulates the amount of liquid entering the coils and the motor switch is operated by pressure of the vapour itself, Thus the operation automatic.
