Mechanical Equivalent of heat:-It is defined as the amount of work dine-ergs to generate one calories of heat. If W is the work dine- generating an amount of heat H thus we have

1.Where J is a constant called Joule’s constant or mechanical equivalent of heat. It is found to be U.

2. Joules per calories in CGS system and 772 ft.lb per B. Th U in FPS system
