From the internal tissue of plants water is evaporated through the aerial parts and green leaves, roots etc, In the presence of sunlight. This process of giving out excess of water is known as Transpiration.
Importance of Transpiration :-
(1) This process is of great importance to plants as roots absorb water from the soil, the excess of water is given out through this process.
(2) The greater the rate of transpiration the greater is the rate of absorption of water from the soil
(3) As absorption helps in taking of organic salts from soil, transpiration rate is more the rate of absorption of inorganic salts from the soil is also high.
(4) Transpiration also helps in osmosis
(5) This process also helps in distributing water throughout plant body.
51 What are the Factors Affecting Transpiration ?
These factors are as follows:-
(1)Light:-During day time stomata remain open and so evaporation of water takes place normally; but at night these stomata are not open with the result transpiration is checked
(2)Humidity of the Air:-When atmosphere is dry, then transpiration is more, because it receives water readily but when atmosphere becomes moist or saturated, then it can receive no more of water.
(3)Temperature of Air:- The rate of transpiration enhances when the temperature surface is not allowed to become saturated.
