Why does a freely suspended magnetic needle always point North and South ?

Our earth behaves as a huge magnet having its South pole at the geographical North pole and its North pole at geographical South pole. As the opposite poles attract each other. North pole of magnetic needle will point towards the South of the Earth’s magnet and South pole of magnetic needle pole of magnetic needle points towards the North pole of Earth’s magnet.
