why there is a phase shift lies between primary and
secondary voltages of a transformer?
Answer Posted / johnathan
When a potential difference is applied across the input terminals of an ideal transformer, an emf is induced in the primary coil. The flux generated in the primary coil due to this emf links through the iron core to the secondary coil. The flux in the iron core is in phase with the current in the primary coil. When the secondary coil cuts the flux linking through the core, an emf is induced in the secondary coil. This emf is proportional to the RATE OF CHANGE OF MAGNETIC FLUX LINKAGE, and the flux and the rate of change of flux linkage are not in phase. Consequently, there is a phase angle between the emf induced in the secondary coil and the emf in the primary coil.
