What is a business view? and what is the difference b/w

Business view is layer in Framework Manager which has set of business rules and calculated columns and filters. Usually best modeling technique contains 3 layers, 1) Physical/database layer 2) Business Layer 3) Presentation layer.

Hi, I have Cognos 7.0 Impromptu reports and these reports have been created with the Mainframe datasource. Now the business needs these reports should be upgraded but with Oracle datasource. So what's the idea, first we should migrate these reports into ReportNet? then in that case what we will do with the Impromptu Catalog? Second, suppose we need to migrate these reports into Cognos 8 (may be 8.4) then how we will do that? do we need to create a FM Model for these reports. Please advice!

Hi All, Is there any way to check whether a value is selected in a Multi-select tree prompt? I have a tree prompt and want to get to know whetehr which values user has selected,i want to so that values on the top of the report. I Have used that paramDisplayValue('paramername'),But it will display only last selected value. For Example i have tree prompt with one level Region- >country->states If user select region Asia it will dislay the all the Countries in that region and then if user select India it will display the states related to india only Suppose Hierachy look like this: Asia->India->Andhra Pradesh. I want to show this hierachy on the top of the report How it is possible? Can you please help me?
I have created a database "TestingDB" in MS SQL Server 2005. I have set the port properties and the Cognos Service is up. But I don't see anything in the Cognos. In the administration i have set the ODBC connection and it tested successfully.If i copy the samples to the appropriate directory then i can see the samples.But I don't know how to do the same thing with my own database "TestingDB". As i have configure the cognos in my company which is having a database (very near to production database).I am a novice in cognos. Please help me out.

Hi All, I have 1.6 years of experience in cognos in India. I always wanted to do a MS program to earn some money in US. But I think I am little late in taking the decision. As If I have to write my GRE it will be August or September of 2012 and will have to apply for fall 2013 as fall 2012 admissions are almost done now. So my concern is how will be my career do if my MS is at this stage,. i,.e. 3 years experience in Cognos and 2 years MS program in and again looking for job in U.S. Have I been too late in taking the call? I heard that MIS (Managing Information Systems) is having very good placements now. So guys, please advice me in taking the decision to have a good career and also in terms of earning money as I have few financial problems to solve (which I am hoping to solve when I get job in US after completion of my MS program). Thanks a lot friends. I really appreciate and thank one and all for their valuable comments in this site.
