what role does a star point or neutral point play in a star
connected system?
Answer Posted / marsad
In a transmission system star connected transformers are preferred than delta connection.. .
Usually the star point is earthed and connected a neutral current transformer in series with the neutral point and ground.. and works as a 3 phase 3 Wire system..
Whenever an internal fault occurs an unbalaced current Flows through the neutral point and then through NCT if the neutral current above a limiting value a relay connected from NCT (called restricted earth fault relay) will actuate.. Which will trip the transformer and protects it.. This can only be done in star connected transformers..
