How we decide the depth and size of footing? Give a example?
Answer Posted / senthil473
you can find out the depth of the foundation using rankines formula, mostly provide upto the hard strata (for skin friction piles the depth of pile will be calculated by giving importance to the friction it developes). the size of the foundation will be decided by the safe bearing capacity of the soil.
for example if the safe bearing capacity of the soil is 225 kn/m2, and the load is 15 kn means provide 225/15= 15 m2 of footing.
