What is the difference between smtp and pop3?

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol using bydefault port number : 25 (We can change it as per our needs) for sending and transfering mails to source and destination.
And
POP3 stands for Post Office Protocol using bydefault port 110(We can change it as per our needs) port number for receiving mails and savied in local computer.
