To decrease power losses... Let us take an example of pumping water along a distance of 50 km say,, when we pump in a slow rate then quantity of water received at other end will be much lesser than sending end .. Since losses more when pumping slowly,, or else if we pump faster then losses will be less...
=> if force is more on pumping water then losses wil be reduced.. Similiary force is analogous to voltage, 'voltage' is a force on current.. So more force(vltg) to reduce losses on trnsmision lines,, and if crnt is more then i^2r losses will be more...
