a.Passing in the 2nd attempt = Fail on first AND Pass in 2nd = 0.4*0.8=0.32 or 8/25.
b.Passing in the 3rd attempt = Fail 1st AND Fail 2nd AND pass 3rd = 0.4*0.2*0.9 = 0.072 = 9/125
c.Failing after 3 attempts = Fail 1st AND Fail 2nd AND Fail 3rd = 0.4*0.2*0.1 = 0.008 = 1/125
