in 11kv generators the neutral point is connected to earth via earth coil while in the 33 / 11 kv transformer the neutral point is connected to earth via earth resistor why?
Answer Posted / vikas
This is neutral earthing concept. Normally for the generators of higher ratings we connect neutral to ground through a coil (peter son coil) to reduce the heavy fault current if fault occurred in the generators (Ph-Ph to fault Ph-body fault etc). Same concept for the transformer also but resistance grounding is sufficient for the 33/11kv transformer.
